Canggu might be famous for its burgers, tacos and those catchy smoothie bowls – don’t get us wrong, we live on those, too! – but when it comes to real delicacies the selection is very, very modest. That’s why each and every of us goes a bit cray-cray when vacationing in Europe: artisan cheese! prosciutto! oysters! We just came back from one of those – eat it all or die trying – kind of trips and were well surprised to find this kind of treats being available in our humble village. All in one place.
Enters Salumeria Tanah Barak. It’s an aperitivo spot. A tapas bar. Italy meets Spain meets Bali kind of deli. A one man show? Run by the executive chef of Saigon Street Bali, Geoff Lindsay this little gem is…a gem indeed! They source the innovative farmer’s produce throughout Bali: you can see the cheese and meats selection in the glass display. You’ll be WOWed how much locally produced goodness you can find these days in our island – if only you know what are you looking for
We’ve had: Sumatran oysters, the beautiful salad of ricotta cheese, lemon zest and young mashed peas, a selection of cold cuts and cheeses (all local and only for Rp.150k for two!) some lovely snacks of olives, grissini and sardines sprinkled with pomegranate molasses…and desserts of course! All of the fingerlicking quality, washed down with Aperol spritz.
Next time we gonna be planning a date, we’d want it to look – and taste! – like this.
Watch these guys closely as they are throwing some lovely foodie events: Oyster Mondays (10k/piece, yes please!), Pimm’s Fridays, Aperol Saturdays (2-for-1…uh, tough life!), cheese tastings, BBQ nights and much more. You can totally find us there, 5 days a week!?
