Let’s get one thing straight: Sanur doesn’t deserve the bad rap it gets these days.
A quiet, family-friendly beachside pocket amidst the chaos of Denpasar, Sanur may not have the sex appeal of Seminyak or the surfer chic of Canggu. But its pervasive sense of calm can feel like a serious sigh of relief. And as far as beaches go, it’s one of Bali’s most accessible and most beautiful. Yeah, we said it.
Need even more reason to add Sanur to your Bali itinerary (or your plan for next weekend)? It’s easy as ABC. Or, Sanur’s Artotel Beach Club.
Tucked into Sanur’s northern half, ABC mixes a very-boho Bali, all-bamboo aesthetic with a more party-ready feeling than you’ll find on most of the East Coast. They’ve got a playground and a shallow end to keep the kids busy while grown-ups can enjoy some of the strongest cocktails we’ve enjoyed on the island, bumping-but-not-invasive beats from the poolside DJ booth and a swim-up bar for you to sip on your ABC-branded coconut.
ABC’s new menu leans towards the sea, with plenty of fresh caught fish, but don’t sleep on their wide range of salads, pizzas, pastas and meaty mains. Don’t spend too long on the menu, though—there’s a whole, mesmerizingly white sand beach to enjoy. And that’s what we liked most about ABC: it’s equal halves. Spend some time eating around the pool, then retire to one of ABC’s beachside beds with a book and enjoy a much-deserved daydream.
ABC is just one of the names popping up when we talk to expats and tourists about Sanur, and those conversations happen a lot. We’re ready to go to the mat for this gem—see you on the beach!
