Every time we head down very, very South – the Bukit peninsula, the land of the fearless wave chasers – we can’t think of staying anywhere but Bingin. This beach was a love at first sight when we came here years ago, and so is Melali Bingin, our favourite private property here.
Melali might not have the killer ocean looks or the hectares of territory (definitely not, there is a reason why some accommodations are called boutique ? ) but it shouldn’t worry you. What it does have is the most quiet, tranquil location and the interior that makes you feel like it’s your own summer house – if only we all would have a perfect taste in home styling like the owners of Melali do! It cosy, minimalistic and just a little bit fancy, definitely not your typical surfer homestay!
There are small details that we keep gushing about: a pop of colour here and there, that palm tree wallpaper and ‘mermaid’ walls of the bathrooms you just want to touch on all the time, the pretty patterned textiles, ‘flower’ armchairs, and this list goes on and on.
There are even smaller details that make us oh-so-happy: like, a selection of organic potato chips in the mini-bar and piles of assorted Magnum in the freezer and heaps of latest DVDs in the TV room. Those après-surf evenings have been sorted!
The breakfast menu features cold-pressed juices, chia seed pudding and The Best Omelette we’ve ever had – no jokes here! They are very conscious about what they are putting on your plate here so there would be absolutely no packaged “sponge” bread and cheap jam – instead, you’ll be offered to start your day with all things healthy, yummy and filling. It does feel like you are holidaying at your best friend’s house, who is really, really willing to take a good care of you. Ah, that’s the way vacation – or, in our case, staycation – should be like!
