If you haven’t been (or heard of, at least!) at Da Maria yet, most probably you’ve been living under the rock. Or in Ubud. Sanur, Sally? ‘Cause you know, if you live in the South and have some sort of social life (which means you manage to put your phone aside time to time and go talk to people), that’s the place to be these days: see, be seen and munch on Napoli-style pizza in style. It’s such a hotspot you would like to wear you best heels, cougar-printed playsuit and vampire red lips, although the decor is more chilled than glam. That doesn’t matter. Everyone – EVERYONE! – will be there, so you need to amp your social game to the MAX. The rules are simple: as soon as you park, switch your Cinecitta diva mode on and swing those hips as you walk it. Wear heady perfume. Throw “ciaos” around. Smooch the cheeks. Now, brace yourself and read the menu.
It’s all about pizza here – true Napolitan style, baked in those impressive lava stone ovens by handsome and cheeky Italian pizzaiolas. Start with Margarita, and you’ll be shocked how divine a tomato sauce smeared on a dough can taste. Now you might want to try other options – or stick to the Numero Uno. We did.
But the menu has more hidden gems: chef Skelly’s famous beetroot salad, for instance. Or that sublime white fish carpacco. Burrata. Prosciutto. All the big names are here – not only people-wise, but food-wise too.
The people behind Motel Mexicola in Bali and Icebergs in Bondi, Sydney did it again: created the perfect social hangout. We can’t fight with its magic, so we surrender – running for the best pizza in Bali, stilletos on!
