Bali has all types of yoga, cross-fit, martial arts and other fitness activities on offer but for some reason the dancing classes choice is quite limited. Of course, you can find some zumba, pole dancing and hip hop for your teens but how about real dancing?
No wonder we got a little bit excited to find out the Embodied Arts studio. The place is still kinda fresh, but the world of mouth is spreading like a wild fire: the studio – managed by ex-ballet dancer from NY – is just about the right size, with a nice lacquer wooden floor and a strong air-con, and a division of great teachers. Drumrolls, please (well, at least for us!): they do the contemporary dance classes! If you are a fan, you’re most probably putting your favorite sweat pants on as you read this and heading to check it out. If you’ve never tried before, this is what you should expect: a lot of stretching, reconnecting with your body, flowing moves, rolling on the floor, being fluid as water and as a result – releasing all those energy knots. Anti-ballet is what it’s called sometimes, ’cause there are no strict rules, or mistakes to make, really – you just listen to your body, letting your arm follow your foot, with your hips being loose and keeping your spine elastic. If you love yoga and any kind of energy work based on movement, you should give it a try. If you just love dancing – you must try it!
