Let’s get this out of the way quickly: we’re the kind of people who are a bit scared of all the healthy food craze going on. First, they take beef and cheese out of our lunch burger, then what – no bacon for breakfast? Wait a second, it’s on, too! We are happy to travel all the way to Ubud and have a proper ‘sin-free’ getaway now and then, but our regular days – we like them with a dash of naughty-ness. Or, should we just say ‘normality’?
So, to tell you the truth, we were a bit cautious when we saw Cafe Veda‘s fresh sign. Then we’ve spotted a glossy belly of a shiny red Marzocco coffee machine and it dragged us in. And we’re glad it did! Veda turned out to be very handsome, with some traditional Balinese deco elements played in a quirky modern way and a surprising inner yard set in an authentic local household, with its beautifully carved wooden doors and little fish ponds. Yes, you can sit here, too, on the floor pillows, and enjoy the greenery and tranquility.
Now, the food! ? Although these guys make the healthy fare a priority (they do gluten free bread, herbal elixirs and jamu, superfoods smoothies, etc), they also cater to us, mere sinners. Meaning, there is plenty of old school delicious goodness on the menu, including bacon, smoked salmon, whipped cream and whole milk for your coffee. Yay!
By the way, speaking of coffee. You’ll find some unusual species here: like ‘Magic’ coffee (double ristretto + 3/4 of milk) or healthy food maniacs’ favorite ‘Bulletproof’ coffee. Go google it!
Our verdict is: yes and yes, and yes once again. We love the fact you appreciate our ‘normality’, and we will be paying back, every other day!
