In Ubud, there are places for mindful eating, detoxing, exploring, praying to your salad before stabbing it with a fork …but not too many spots designed with a simple pleasure of hanging out in mind;) And to our experience nothing, NOTHING beats the sacred practice of dolce far niente – so we give a big high-five to the founders of Lazy Cats who definitely are in the same camp as ourselves.
We can’t call this spot a cafe, even: it’s more of a living room, a hangover lounge (that pineapple kombucha last night, man, it was so naughty! ), a balcony with a view and grandma’s old plush sofa to chill on – dirty paws up! – all day long. This space feels like a casual hangout somewhere in Berlin: the upper floor of an old building is carefully preserved in a moderate shabby way, with wild plants growing through the wall cracks and exposed holes in the straw roof (don’t worry, it doesn’t leak when it rains, we’ve asked – it’s a part of the concept!;) The mishmash furniture adds on to that Berlin feel: we love the old school plush arm chairs in dusty rose and striped canape. You really can’t find a prettier place for the late afternoon selfie session – it’s all golden & pink!
They do have a small basic and honestly-priced menu here (avo toast, smoothies, eggs, healthy wraps), and their coffee is good. In a nutshell, we don’t have a single strong reason to leave that sofa anytime soon. ‘Cause we’re true lazy cats.
