When it comes to yoga, or any other spiritual/holistic practice, we all know that Ubud is the ultimate place to go. However, Canggu – nevermind its fame of hipster “shallowness” – is another great destination to polish that challenging savasana pose ?

Here is our top of the tops:

The Practice: Canggu’s favorite, tongue-in-cheek yogi Octavio Salvado (he’s one of the Bali Rockstars by the way, check our Hall Of Fame out!) has finally opened his own temple and this spacious bamboo dome looks pretty impressive. Some of the long-haired guru are there to see him doing splits in his signature skinny jeans, but we are there only for the serious self-development reason. Maybe 😉

Yoga styles: Vinyasa, Hatha, Yin + kirtan sessions

Money: Rp.140k for a drop-in class, passes from Rp.600k. Find the studio’s daily schedule here.

Samadi: modern, designer, sunlight-soaked studio with a bunch of great teachers. We love Indian meals and chai tea served in the studio’s peaceful cafe as our post-class treat!

Yoga styles: Mysore, Hatha, Ashtanga, Bodymind Flow, Yin, Surfer’s Yoga. Plus regular workshops and special events.

Money: Rp.130k for a drop-in class. For locals, KITAS holders and people living in Bali for 6 months+ with a permanent address  80k.  Find the studio’s daily schedule here.

Desa Seni: an institution. Yoga classes to all tastes, kundalini and tantra (and many others) retreats, salt water pool, fresh coconuts, mindful chats – no wonder this place became Ubud’s embassy in the “sinful” South.

Yoga styles: Hatha, Restorative, Kundalini, Yin Yang, Sunset Flow and much more + monthly Full Moon gatherings.

Money: Rp.140k for a drop-in class, passes from Rp.700k. Find the studio’s daily schedule here.

Serenity:  this shala is one of the yoga pioneers in Canggu, and is still going strong being the most affordable one. It’s a small friendly community – you can spot them doing acro-tricks on the beach and at the lawns of the hood. Join them in the studio for more fun!

Yoga Styles: Mysore, Beginners, Vinyasa Krama, Ashtanga, Arm Balance, Hatha, YinYasa for Surfers, Naturopatic Yoga.

Money: Rp.100k for the drop-in class, passes from Rp.450k. Find the studio’s daily schedule here.

P.S. There is always more than four! We haven’t even started on the classes at The Chillhouse – Bali Surf and Bike Retreats and Bali Fit Canggu… that calls for edition #2!:) And if you are a healthy lifestyle maniac, you would totally love our stories on some of the best healthy food outlets in Bali: for instance, check out this juice bar and that vegetarian cafe! Enjoy.
