The cozy little Dewi Sita street in Ubud seems to be gaining the reputation of the gourmet destination: the island’s best fine dining restaurant Locavore, and it’s little brother, Locavore To Go, Ubud’s most creative bar, Night Rooster – they are all located here. And now it has the first Chinese food outlet in town, too!

Golden Monkey is very new: they are still in the process of soft-opening. Yet, these guys are anything but shy: the waitresses are striking in their full-on red and golden traditional outfits, the Singapore chef makes the kitchen stuff sweat and the food they deliver to your table looks mouthwatering. And as it turns out, eyes don’t lie: it tastes as good as it looks! The dim sums are the silky little bombs that explode with flavours once in your mouth. The black pepper beef is hot and makes you crave more. The tofu and eggplant clay pot is a show stealer – vegetarian folks, they’ve got you covered, and we’re joining your camp ‘cause this dish is out of this world. And don’t even start us on that crunchy, fatty, sinfully good pork belly. Hey, even broccoli tastes amazing – we ate half a plate without even noticing! How do they do it?

Well, we know what you are thinking, and apparently, you’re wrong. “Traditional Chinese food is known for being loaded with MSG…well, we don’t do it here!” – say the owners. A heavy stone off our shoulders – can we have another basket of xiao long bao then, please? 😉
