‘Organic nail polish’ – that sounds a bit…fake, no? Like, c’mon, organic rice, organic burger buns, now this?! Well, apparently if we look closer into those cute little bottles with pastel varnishes that we used to consider our nails’ and toes’ best friends, they are not that innocent: packed with quite nasty chemicals and some odd components like…umm, real fish scales for sparkles! Now, that’s yak. Come again, what were you saying about those organic varnishes?
They can tell you all about it at the cutest new salon Maria Curau at Pererenan. This spa, specializing in eco-friendly nail treatments only (plus a couple of signature massages) is just different. The hand soak is made of fresh coconut milk with a few drops of pure lavender oil – AH, that aroma! The shoulder massage is performed before, not after the main treatment, which instantly helps you to switch off your monkey mind. The foot scrub is lush. The homemade kombucha is icy. The music is great. As the mani-pedi goes on, you melt in your armchair like butter on a hot pan.
And then comes the time to pick your colours. One would presume the organic polishes must be of earthy – should we just say DULL? – tones. Instead, they come in all possible hues of neon, pastel, vamp red, you name it. The leading nail artist does the mean freehand. They do dots. Chevron. Stripes. Apparently, there is nothing boring about being a little bit more green-conscious than usual And the owner is such a sweetheart – we are smitten and going organic head to toes!
P.S. Check the range of the cutest Frida dolls, all the sales go for a ‘Bali Street Moms’ charity project. The best excuse to get yourself a lovely toy!
