Seriously, this short strip of Petitenget street, the Leo Square-to-Batu Belig one, which used to be so dull, lame and whatever else even a year ago is BOOMING these days. Well, Da Maria, Hacienda and other big players that invaded this strip to blame, but there is also an army of cool little joints sitting tight next to each other that make you wanna explore this area every time you pass by! You know whom we’re talking about: Mad Ronin, Lantern, La Baracca, freshly opened Monsieur Spoon (read our review here!), the list goes on! Greek, Italian, Pan-Asian, Japanese…it’s like travelling around the world without even hopping on your Scoopy! And the latest addition to that fam is Indian, which can’t make us happier. Because everything Indian is just pure happiness for us, don’t even ask! ?
So, it’s a very warm welcome to Tiffin Bali, a tiny terrace extension to Shearlock Barber & Coffee spot. Run by a beautiful Indian lady-chef and her partner (yes, Indian as well), this tiny spot is still sort of secret and we’re loving it that way. What they do here is “Indian tapas”, meaning it’s not gonna be your typical curry/dosa/thali kind of Indian meal. Food comes in a bunch of small plates, ready to be shared (or not! depends on how food-greedy you are ?) It all looks, smells and tasted delightful – tiny bites of joy indeed! It’s dangerously addictive from the very first bite as you just keep ordering “more of this, please”. That’s what we did, guilty as charged.
Throw in a glass (or three) of a seriously good pino from the bar above, or a cocktail made by a visiting drinks wizard, and you are all set to cross the road and continue the night at Da Maria once you’re finished with everything left in the kitchen! ?
